GC licence granted, GW deadlines and Expert scoring - 31/12 update

It's been a while since our last development update. We have been busy in the background continuing to build Fantasy Monster - we watched a lot of the World Cup (Morocco were robbed!).

Here are some quick bullet points...

Gambling Commission update

Some good news - we have had our application for a combined Remote Pools Betting Licence and Gambling Software Licence approved by the Gambling Commission in the United Kingdom: https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/public-register/business/detail/59886

This is a significant achievement that will allow us to take the next step in the development of Fantasy Monster. We are now permitted to launch a Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) product in the United Kingdom, which was our plan all along. This has been a long time in the making.

GW deadlines - should we have them?

Fantasy Monster presents a unique opportunity to rethink the fantasy format and innovate. One of the things we are considering is the role of deadlines before gameweeks.

It is customary for gameweek deadlines to be set roughly one-hour before kick off of the first match - see Fantasy Premier League and our first product, Fantasy Football Scotland. This is a very familiar format to fantasy football managers.

Technically speaking, it would be possible to eliminate contest deadlines entirely, allowing changes to teams and transfers right up until the moment of kick off when teams would be locked in. But is this a good idea? Would this improve the user experience? Just something we are assessing.

Expert scoring system

We're 15 gameweeks into the first season of Fantasy Football Scotland using the Expert scoring system. Thousands of users are playing Expert contests every GW, but we would like feedback on the scoring system.

What improvements could be made to the Expert scoring system? What do you like about the current scoring system? And what don't you like? This is only the first season of Expert scoring - it will continue to evolve over time.

The lessons we learn from Fantasy Football Scotland will inform a lot of what we do with Fantasy Monster.

Please check back soon for our next development update.
